SUMMARY

Prices resumed a downward trend again this week as the world economies prepare to issue their response to US tariff increases.

The continued decline of many financial and commodity markets on Thursday and Friday may have helped ease the pressure on the wholesale energy market. According to data from the London Stock Exchange, the FTSE 100 index, a major European stock benchmark, tumbled 1.4% compared to its previous close, with the US S&P 500 posting an even larger sell-off of 4.8% by the end of trade.

This decline in prices will be as global energy markets anticipate a potential economic slowdown due to the new US tariffs placed on the vast majority of countries on Thursday which, in turn, has the potential to curb demand for fossil fuels due to reduced industrial output.

Further losses may be have capped with news of unplanned maintenance in Norway which further restricted exports and coincided with the onset of large-scale, planned summertime maintenance across the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

In other news, concerns about EU gas storage levels will only add to pressure pot throughout the summer months, especially with impending trade wars potentially affecting gas imports. As of 31st March, EU storage facilities were 33.59% full, nearly 25% lower than the same date last year.

Say 'No' to cold calling on business energy

Unfortunately, business electricity and business gas customers in the UK are bombarded with unsolicited cold calls on a daily basis.

This unscrupulous approach does not offer the business energy customer an impartial view on the market and the price offered is more often 20-30% above the current retail price for electricity or gas.

At Energy Advice Line we strongly advise customers to not accept these offers and follow our simple steps to ensure that they are not locked into an uncompetitive contract.

Join our cold calling campaign here, and spread the word to say 'no' to cold calling on business energy!
