Affording energy bills is a major concern for UK consumers this winter
As the energy regulator Ofgem has told energy suppliers that they must improve the level of support afforded to people struggling to pay their bills, a survey by comparison site Finder suggests that affording energy bills is the most significant financial worry amongst UK adults this winter.
46% of the 2000 consumers surveyed cited energy prices and affording bills as their number one concern, with 53% of single person households expressing the most concern, followed by those sharing with another person at 46%.
Next and following closely is the concern about affording the weekly grocery shop.
23% of consumers surveyed confirmed that affording the grocery shop this coming winter is a major worry, driven by the rising food prices in 2023 and mainly attributed to inflationary pressures born from the energy price crisis and this being felt throughout the supply chain now.
There is no escaping the huge rises to energy bills over the last 12-18 months. Although it will take a period of time to be passed onto the end consumer there is just no way of avoiding increases.
